Filter Presses

Powerful solid–liquid separation via pressure-driven dewatering for high-solids cake production

Overview

Cube Consolidating Filter Presses support effective dewatering of slurries and sludge using hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. Feed material is injected centrally into a bank of plates, separated by filter cloths. As each chamber fills, pressure increases until sludge caking prevents further flow into the chambers, forming dense solids layers for efficient liquid removal. Operators may then apply compressed air or high-pressure water to further purge moisture air being faster, and water often more cost-efficient.

Technical Highlights

How Filter Presses Work

Slurry is introduced into the filter press through a central feed chamber, filling each plate-to-plate chamber sequentially. Optimal design ensures uniform filling before the first chamber cakes. Once chambers are full, pressure—typically up to 7 bar or more—is maintained to compress solids. Filtrate exits through cloths into channels while solids remain trapped as cake.

Cake release is followed by optional operations such as air blowing and wash steps to improve dryness and purity. Depending on configuration—plate & frame, recessed-plate, or membrane  type—automated or manual plate shifting, cake washing, and cloth cleaning may also be featured.
