Vacuum Belt Filters
Continuous vacuum-assisted belt systems for efficient dewatering of industrial and wastewater
sludge
Overview
Cube Consolidating Vacuum Belt Filters are engineered to dewater slurries and sludge using a vacuum-suction system applied beneath a moving filter belt. This continuous process separates filtrate from solids efficiently—ideal for removal of liquid from sludge streams common across mining, water treatment, pulp & paper, food processing, and chemical industries.
Technical Highlights
- Feed solids range: 1–10% typical; producing cake solids of 12–50%, depending on conditioning and application
- Drying zones: gravity drainage followed by roller compression zones, adjustable for cake density and moisture control
- Belt loading rates: commonly 40–230 kg/h/m (low) to 300–910 kg/h/m (high capacity)
- Cake discharge thickness: typically 3–5 mm minimum for clean discharge and belt release
- Conditioning chemicals: polymer flocculants improve dewatering performance and cake dryness
How Vacuum Belt Filters Work
Slurry is spread evenly onto a filter belt via an inlet box. As the belt moves, vacuum chambers beneath remove liquid through the belt media. The filtrate is collected, while the residual solid cake is transported over rollers and scraped off for discharge. Optionally, the cake can be washed or rinsed before removal. Following cake removal, belt cleaning—via brushes or spray bars—prepares the system for the next cycle. This vacuum-enhanced, gravity-based method enables high throughput and effective moisture removal.
Key Benefits
- High-Throughput & Continuous Operation: Handles large sludge volumes reliably, making it suitable for industrial-scale applications.
- Lower Pressure & Energy Use: Vacuum-driven rather than high-pressure dewatering reduces energy consumption and operating costs.
- Quiet & Reliable: Compared to other mechanical dewatering systems, it generates less noise and supports rapid startup/shutdown.
- Effective Cake Quality: Produces stable cakes with acceptable dryness (typically 12–20% solids) and minimal fines carry-over.
- Simple Operation & Maintenance: Durable belts, minimal moving parts, and automated belt washing—offer low-maintenance performance.
